Located in Mesa County are the cities of Grand Junction, Palisade, Clifton and Fruita. Situated about 30 miles east of the Utah border, this area of the Colorado River Valley is known for it's wine, fruit and temperate climate. Grand Junction is the largest city in Western Colorado. |
| Delta, Cedaredge, Paonia and Crawford are located in Delta County, while Somerset is in Gunnison County. Situated in and around the Grand Mesa National Forest, this area is about 1,200 to 1,500 feet higher than the Grand Junction area. |
| The communities of Olathe, Montrose, Ridgway and Ouray stretch south into Montrose and Ouray Counties, connecting to southwestern Colorado via Red Mountain Pass which crests at just over 11,000 feet. The scenic drive along the Uncompahgre River and over the pass to Silverton is nicknamed the Million Dollar Highway. |
