Fruita, Colorado
The Township of Fruita was established in 1884 by William E. Labor. In the 1889-1990 period fruit was planted with mostly hardy apples and pear and eventually won a National Apple Show with the Black Ben Davis apples.
Cattle and sheep became important as well as farming potatoes, sugar beet and winter wheat. Fruita participated in a Resettlement Project with two to three families to start and eventually equaling thirty-four families by 1937.
As early as the 1930's Fruita brought electricity to 900 farms and established a town library, central school and the construction of the amazing Rim Rock Drive to the top of the Colorado National Monument.
Today, Fruita continues to expand in its housing and Business Park developments. Emphasis on traffic flow and managing this expansion keeps Fruita one of the most progressive and diverse communities in Western Colorado.
With a selection of seven parks to choose from, an outdoor pool, a golf course, festivals throughout the year, a multitude of trails, adventure guides and much more, Fruita proves to be an excellent place to enjoy recreation and family activities.
