Grand Junction, Colorado
Founded in 1882 by George Crawford, Grand Junction celebrates its 125th Anniversary in the summer of 2007. With much to celebrate due to the success of the diverse agriculture in the early days, dinosaur discoveries nearby and the economic boom from the governmental offices searching for uranium during World War II that lead to a flourishing city. Energy booms seem to come and go for Grand Junction such as the oil shale development in 1982 and now the natural gas drilling and production of today. Grand Junction also has many industries, a multitude of retail establishments, excellent restaurants, a new Justice Center, Mesa State College, Museums, as well as a 110 acre recreation center. With the excellent weather Grand Junction experiences recreation is a real focus for the area. There are six golf courses, many hiking trails and water sports to be enjoyed. The economics of Grand Junction are strong and along with that come expanding neighborhoods, the attraction of new businesses into the area and new events and festivals to enjoy.
